Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about ordering, production, and application

Direct to Film (DTF) transfer is a modern printing method where your design is printed onto a special film and then transferred onto fabric using heat and pressure. This process allows for high-quality, full-color prints on a wide variety of materials.

At DTF Print House, we print your design using professional-grade inks, apply adhesive powder, and cure the transfer before shipping it ready to press. This means you receive a finished transfer that can be applied easily with a heat press.

DTF transfers are suitable for:

  • Cotton, polyester, blends, and more
  • T-shirts, hoodies, uniforms, and workwear
  • Both small logos and large designs

Compared to traditional printing methods, DTF offers:

  • No color limitations
  • No weeding required
  • Strong adhesion on different fabrics
  • Soft feel and flexibility after pressing

When applied correctly, DTF transfers are highly durable and can withstand repeated washing without cracking or fading.

At DTF Print House, there is no minimum order requirement. You can order as little as one transfer or scale up to bulk quantities depending on your needs.

This flexibility makes DTF transfers ideal for:

  • Small businesses testing new designs
  • Custom one-off orders
  • Large production runs with consistent quality

Whether you need a single logo or hundreds of prints, we use the same professional printing process to ensure every order meets high-quality standards.

For larger orders, we also offer cost-efficient options such as gang sheets, allowing you to combine multiple designs into one sheet and reduce your cost per print.

To apply DTF transfers correctly, you need a heat press that provides consistent temperature, even pressure, and accurate timing control. These three factors are essential for activating the adhesive and ensuring long-lasting results.

Recommended Heat Press Types

The following machines are fully compatible with DTF transfers:

  • Clamshell heat press (most common and cost-effective)
  • Swing-away heat press (better pressure distribution)
  • Drawer heat press (ideal for precision and safety)

All of these can produce professional results as long as they maintain stable heat and pressure.

Temperature Guidelines

DTF transfers typically require:

  • Recommended range: 300–320°F (150–160°C)
  • Starting point: around 305°F (152°C)

This range is based on the activation temperature of TPU-based adhesive powder, which bonds the printed design to the fabric.

⚠️ Important:

  • Too low → weak adhesion
  • Too high → risk of damaging the transfer or fabric

Press Time

  • Standard press time: 10–15 seconds
  • Adjust slightly depending on fabric thickness

Pressure

  • Medium to firm pressure is required
  • Pressure should be even across the entire design area

Uneven pressure can lead to:

  • Partial adhesion
  • Peeling after washing

Peel & Finishing

Most DTF transfers are hot peel or warm peel:

  • Wait a few seconds after pressing
  • Peel smoothly
  • Then apply a second press (5–10 seconds) using parchment paper or a Teflon sheet

This improves:

  • Durability
  • Wash resistance
  • Finish quality

Can I Use a Home Iron?

A household iron is not recommended because:

  • It cannot maintain consistent temperature
  • Pressure is uneven
  • There is no precise timing control

This often results in poor adhesion and reduced durability.

Our DTF transfers are available in a wide range of sizes to fit everything from small logos to large-scale production needs.

We offer:

  • Small transfers starting from 2" × 2" for logos, tags, and detailed placements
  • Larger sizes for full front and back designs
  • Gang sheet options up to 22 inches wide and up to 20 feet long

This flexible system allows you to choose the exact size you need or build your own custom layout by uploading multiple designs into one sheet.

Our gang sheet builder is ideal for:

  • Maximizing material usage
  • Reducing cost per print
  • Managing bulk or mixed design orders

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Make sure your artwork is sized correctly before uploading
  • We recommend high-resolution files (300 DPI) for best print quality
  • Large sheets should be organized efficiently to avoid unused space

DTF transfers are designed for long-term durability and can typically withstand 80+ wash cycles when applied correctly and cared for properly.

Unlike traditional prints, DTF transfers bond directly to the fabric using heat-activated adhesive, creating a flexible and resilient finish that moves with the garment. This helps prevent cracking, peeling, or fading over time.

They are suitable for everyday use on items such as t-shirts, hoodies, and workwear, maintaining both color vibrancy and print integrity even after repeated washing.

The lifespan of a DTF transfer depends mainly on:

  • Proper application
  • Fabric type
  • Washing and drying conditions

For best results, we recommend washing garments inside out, using mild detergents, and avoiding high heat during drying. With proper care, DTF transfers remain strong, flexible, and visually sharp through extended use.

Order speed depends on two stages: production time and shipping time.

At DTF Print House, all transfers are made to order. Most orders are produced within 1–3 business days, depending on order size and complexity.

Once your order is completed, delivery typically takes:

  • Standard shipping: 2–4 business days
  • Express shipping: 1–2 business days

This means most orders are delivered within 1–3 business days from the time your order is placed.

For faster turnaround, orders placed before the daily cut-off time may qualify for priority or same-day processing, depending on production availability.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Larger or more complex orders may require additional production time
  • Delivery times may vary during peak periods
  • Shipping delays caused by carriers are outside our control

For the best print quality, we recommend submitting your artwork in high-resolution formats that preserve detail and color accuracy.

Recommended file formats:

  • PNG (preferred – transparent background)
  • PDF
  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)
  • PSD (Photoshop)

PNG files are the most commonly used because they support transparency and are easy to process for DTF printing.

Artwork Requirements

To ensure optimal results:

  • Resolution should be 300 DPI (minimum recommended)
  • Artwork should be sized exactly as you want it printed
  • Background should be transparent (for PNG files)
  • Colors should be in RGB or CMYK (RGB is generally preferred for DTF workflows)

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Low-resolution images may result in blurry or pixelated prints
  • Screenshots or web images are often not suitable for printing
  • We print your file as provided, so please make sure your artwork is print-ready before uploading

Due to the custom nature of our products, all DTF transfers are made to order and are non-refundable unless there is a defect or issue with your order.
